A Recollection of the Dumpster Shed

Expressing oneself as a whole can feel almost impossible. We are made of countless layers and constantly changing. Shaped by time, altered by situations, and deepened by experience. No single moment can define who I am, because who I am is a result of something scattered across moments that seem unrelated, directionless, even meaningless.

This work doesn’t begin with a clear narrative, but with fragments. Each material holds a trace of something I lived, felt, and lingers to this day. Nothing here was individually made to define me, and yet together, they do. A vase, beam of light, wires, shattered glass, and mirrors, recollected from parts of my home and our literal apartment dumpster shed. These daily objects may seem purposeless when thrown like this, but represent memories piled upon memories. Even the smallest or seemingly insignificant moments become part of me, and ones forgotten or overlooked by others can still alter my existence. Together, they become the building blocks of my identity. I wanted to focus on how those seemingly disconnected, complex processes and connections ultimately lead back to making who I am.

This work is not a resolution, but a reflection. The fragments come together not to finalize a picture, but to suggest that we are always becoming.
